Automatic gates add motorized operation, typically controlled by a remote, keypad, or sensor, and are more common for driveway gates on properties wanting added convenience or security. Installing an automatic gate involves additional considerations, including power access, safety sensors to prevent the gate from closing on a vehicle or person, and a backup manual release in case of power failure.
Gate hardware quality matters as much as the gate itself. Hinges, latches, and hardware that are undersized for the gate's weight are one of the most common reasons gates fail early, sagging or misaligning within a year or two of installation.
